Client: Archdiocese of Westminster
Project value: £9.2M
The Holy Family Catholic Primary School is a brand new 446-place primary school, located within the 1930s mock-Tudor Hanger Hill Garden Estate Conservation Area, Acton. A tight urban site adjoining two locally listed buildings and immediately adjacent to the Piccadilly tube line presented DHP with significant demands.
This is the first completely new school within the Archdiocese of Westminster in over 40 years and deserved a very special solution. The DHP design team rose to the challenge with a high quality modern design with a strong identity, which also picks up on existing elements of the surrounding Conservation Area to establish a dialogue with its locality. The new building uses a well-articulated volumetric form enhanced by different façade treatments and an irregular footprint, creating a legible building with varied architectural expressions.
