Client: Guildford Diocese Board for Education / Governors of Ewhurst CofE Infant School
Project value: £435k
Completion: May 2010
Ewhurst won the Surrey Village of the Year Award in 2010, with judges commenting on the coherent and integrated nature of the this very popular village, nestled in the Surrey Hills. The school has been at the heart of the village providing first class education for over 100 years. However, curriculum changes have left the school struggling with second-rate buildings and a lack of the necessary accommodation for the 21st Century.
The new traditional style extension forms a second phase of the school’s development plan and replaces a very unsympathetic 1960’s flat roofed store building in this Conservation Area. The new accommodation comprises a new main entrance (at the front of the school!), staffroom, offices and toilet facilities, together with a new corridor linking all areas of the school. Vacated accommodation within the existing building has been reconfigured to provide group-teaching spaces.
