Client: Governors of Salesian School / Diocese of Arundel & Brighton
Project value: £130k
Completion: October 2004
Nestling quietly in the Tillingbourne valley between the Downs and Surrey Hills, Shere has it all: a quaint atmosphere, picturesque buildings, superb scenery, even a stream with ducks and a ford no less. At the centre of the village is the school, the heart of the community, which provides an excellent and well respected education for infant aged pupils.
The challenge for DHP was to provide the school with much-needed kitchen and dining room facilities whilst complimenting the unique environment of the picturesque village setting. Tight Planning restrictions necessitated a sensitive approach and a design that blends in with the existing stone buildings. A local quarry was re-opened in order to source matching bargate stone.
