Client: Governors of St Mary's Catholic Primary School / Diocese of Westminster
Project value: £400,000 and £450,000 (in 2004)
Completion: August 2008
DHP were first invited to the school in 2001, at which time the school had a new Headteacher who was operating within highly unsuitable accommodation. The school had no staffroom and the layout of teaching accommodation was very disjointed due to poorly planned circulation spaces. Of particular concern was the foundation stage accommodation, which was woefully inadequate, comprising an undersized detached nursery in very poor condition and a remotely located reception classbase, which had been haphazardly converted from the former school kitchen. The school was struggling to attract new pupils.
The school and DHP prepared a development plan, which was implemented in phases. During 2004 a brand new early years centre was added, and in 2008 the much needed staff accommodation was finally provided. The last phase of work also included a new contemporary main entrance and further office and specialist teaching accommodation.
Pupils, parents and staff now enjoy bright spacious facilities, which have contributed to the continued popularity of the school, which is now heavily over subscribed.
