Client: Archdiocese of Westminster / Governors of St John Fisher Catholic Primary School
Project value: £7.4M
Completion: December 2008
After many years of enduring accommodation in very poor condition and across a split site, with infant and junior departments separated by London's busy A40 trunk road, the Diocese of Westminster successfully secured both DCSF funding and sufficient land to enable redevelopment.
Infant pupils were temporarily relocated and their site completely redeveloped to provide a brand new 446-pupil primary school. The doors to this new low carbon school opened to excited pupils and staff in January 2009.
The new school incorporates innovative external play, learning and performance areas, including extensive soft landscaping that provides relief from the predominantly built up urban area. Ground source heat pump technology, together with automated passive ventilation, provides in excess of 40% renewable energy generated on site.
