Client: Guildford Diocese Board for Education / Governors of St Mary’s CofE Primary School
Project value: £3.2M
Completion: October 2009
This popular school had struggled with a lack of space and badly designed 1960’s accommodation for many years. Over half the pupils were accommodated within temporary classrooms and the school lacked sufficient hall, group teaching and staff accommodation.
In 2006 a successful TCF bid was awarded which would enable the school buildings to be transformed. However, before work could start, agreement on the sale of Glebe land had to be negotiated. Finally in late 2008 work began on site to construct 1,000m2 of new accommodation including replacement of the four temporary classrooms, new multi-use hall space, office accommodation, meeting spaces and specialist teaching areas, all around a central wide social corridor.
